What is the Intensive Model?
It is known that one must perform thousands of repitions before a new skill is mastered. Instensive therapy allows your child the opportunity to make permanent changes in muscle strength, endurance and functional outcomes based on the Supercompensation Cycle: During the 24-36 hour recovery period the next phase of excercise should be introduced to prevent biomechanical stores from declining. If a child does not apply another stimulus (exercise) at this time, they will lose all that is gained in the previous period. (Bompa, T.O. PH.D. 1999. Periodization. Theory and Methodology of Training. Human Kinetics.)
By participating in an intensive Therapy Program, the child benefits from a high level of repetition to rapidly improve functional outcomes. The program consists of 3 hours/day, 5 days a week for 3 weeks.
